When Called to Create
A few months ago, God opened the door for me to organize a group for writers; for those who have felt God calling them to write. It has been a joy and a challenge for me, but so rewarding. I love that God gives us opportunities to serve Him in so many unique ways!
What does this have to do with healing, or even walking healed? Everything! Because in writing and learning to write, we discover much about ourselves, about the God we serve, and who He says we are.
When we began the shelter-in-place our meetings shifted to Zoom. I wondered how I could keep my writers active, yet have fun learning and developing their writing skills? God came through again with a creative writing project.
Since 1920 and 2020 parallel in so many ways, we created a fun project that is set in the Roaring 20’s, with writers from that era. Sort of. The writers were to choose a writer, composer, poet, or artist from 1920, find out what they wrote about and why, and a bit about their life. Afterwards, they were to take a little bit of that person, a little bit of themselves, mesh them together and write an article.
The result is the tabloid (as newspapers were called in 1920), The Flapper. In it you will find some encouragement, inspiration, a little humor, a recipe, a little truth and a little fiction thrown in for good measure. You will also find ads from the 1920s. Above all, our hope is that you find some light-hearted entertainment.
The names of the writers are real names, after real people who lived a hundred years ago. The articles are original. The contact information is also real. Therefore, please feel free to write to any of our staff writers at the email address provided inside The Flapper. Let us know what you think of our Tabloid. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did writing it.
The link for the FREE download of The Flapper can be accessed here, and is located below. Please share the link with your friends. Our goal is to encourage as many people as we can while we are in quarantine, and beyond!
