Don’t Keep a Dirty Little Secret
During my healing journey, God has placed many people in my life, for various reasons. In the beginning, one of the things I found amazing is the way He would bring hurting women to my car. Yes, I said my car. Sounds odd, but God doesn’t do anything in the way we expect. I’ve come to know, and believe, He’s an Out-of-the-Box kind of Miracle Worker.
The way in which God brought women to my car is very simple. But believe me, there is nothing simple about what happens when He loads my car with women. You may be wondering what a carload of women has to do with healing. Let me explain.
I love going to women’s conferences. In the newness of my healing some years ago, I was always ready to carpool, driving my little Kia and meeting new people. Each and every time, there was someone in my car whom God wanted to heal of depression, anxiety, abuse, or something that was holding them back from the life God had planned for them.
On one such occasion, I pulled into the parking lot ready to see who God was going to place in my car this time. Within minutes I was approached by a beautiful woman who asked if I was Shelley and then said, “I have to ride with you.”
I always smile at things like this because I already know what’s about to happen. This time, I knew it was not only going to be miraculous, but I would discover later just how huge it was going to turn out to be.
There were three of us in my Kia for this trip. There are always three. You see, God doesn’t overload my car. He knows exactly who needs to be in there, and for what reason. On this day, this beautiful woman, whom I had never met, asked to ride up front with me. It always works out.
We went through the basic introductions; her name was Rhonda. We got on the road, and within minutes, Rhonda asked why God would lead her to get in my car. She kept saying, “I just kept thinking, ‘I have to get to Shelley.’ I didn’t even know who Shelley is! But I felt like God was telling me, “Get to Shelley.”
I told her it had nothing to do with me. I’m just the conduit for what God wanted to do in her life.
I told her my healing story from over forty years of depression, anxiety, and various other mental things. I told her how God had healed me, how the Holy Spirit had come and filled all the empty places left when God removed all the things the enemy had been trying to destroy me with. I told her about the ministry God had given to me and the gift of healing He was allowing me to use. This gave Rhonda the courage to finally share her story with me.
I began listening to her heartbreaking story of depression, and embarrassment. This beautiful woman was mortified that she had been suffering for eighteen years, taking medication she felt she had to keep it a dirty little secret because somewhere she was led to believe Christians shouldn’t, and couldn’t, have depression! Her tears were like a river.
Driving down the highway, at seventy-miles-per-hour, trying to keep track of this beautiful woman while also following the other cars in our carpool, without getting lost on the way to our conference, it was a fun and exciting ride.
I waited.
Suddenly, the Holy Spirit filled the vehicle. I asked Rhonda, “Do you want to be healed of all that?”
“YES!”
Without looking, I reached one hand over and laid on her forehead, keeping my eyes on the road, one hand on the steering wheel, and began praying out loud. I knew the moment Rhonda was healed. She knew it too… and she’s never been the same.
There is so much more to Rhonda’s story, but let me let her tell some of it.
I have some Praise and Glory to give to my Healer, Jesus Christ!!! I have been taking anti-depressants for 18 years! I treated it as my “dirty little secret” because a Christian should not be depressed. It’s okay for one to have any other sickness but definitely not depression! Anyway, God spoke to me in my spirit to do something a bit awkward for me. I didn’t have a clue how to go about doing it, but just as God is, he made a way. I was obedient and NOW I am no longer on anti-depressants! It has been 7 months! I’m not bragging, just want to encourage you, that if God tells you to do something, be obedient and He will reward you faithfully! Thank you Lord, and Shelley Wilburn for being an instrument of God! I am walking healed!!!
It has been five years since Rhonda was healed. She wanted me to use her spilled bottle of medication* for a visual of her healing. I told her that was her prop to use to tell her story (although I feature it here). My point is, this is what Walking Healed Ministries is all about! Healing! **
Whatever God heals you from, and God will heal you, you go out and tell your story, because there is someone, somewhere who is suffering what God healed you from. They need to know there is hope for them. They need to know there is a God who loves them and wants to heal them. They need to know God’s Word says they are already healed, if they will just ask God and receive the healing. There is no need to keep a dirty little secret.
By the stripes of Jesus, we are healed (1 Peter 2:24)! May you all walk healed today and every day!
