Weirdness Wednesday: Cloud-Watching
In my weirdness, which I strongly embrace, I missed last Wednesday, and nearly this one, too. One would think being quarantined, I would have a lot of time on my hands. Yet, I don’t. Lots of things going on around my Rinky Dink Farm (that name is a story for another time), including the interruptions that come even when I’m in my writing room with the door closed. Oh well.
As I sit at my computer, gazing out the window right in front of me, I ponder many things. One being, I really need to clean my window. Another is, what was I going to write about anyway? These little squirrel moments often bother me. But again, that’s a post for another time.
Today though, I’m watching the clouds float across the beautifully bright sky. We’ve had so much rain for so long that a clear and beautifully sunny day is cause for rejoicing. Which brings me to the main topic of today’s post.
Clouds.
I love watching clouds. I always have. I used to watch them with my grandma, making out shapes as they floated by. I learned long ago to make time to watch the clouds. Have fun with it. Be silly with it. And while many people would think that’s wasting time… I do not.
I taught my kids to look for shapes and things in the clouds. In recent days I’ve taught my grandchildren, as did my grandmother with me. One of us will see one thing while another will see something entirely different. That’s okay. It proves we are each using our imagination, which is quite all right.
Years ago, when my husband and I rode motorcycles, I would often watch the sky. I gawked a lot sitting on the back of the bike and saw a lot of things. Once while we were riding with a friend around Florida and Alabama, we had a lovely, bright day, filled with floating clouds everywhere. I began to see shapes, so I started snapping pictures. One of my favorites was Snoopy doing his Snoopy Dance.
Sometimes I see people in the clouds – not like you think. Just the shape of a man, or woman, an elf, a warrior, and things like that. Others have seen the face of Jesus, which I think is awesome. One day we will see Him in the clouds, but in a different way. He will be in Person! How exciting!
Clouds are beautiful. They’re brilliant. They can bring shade to an otherwise hot afternoon. They can also bring rain, snow, hail, fog, storms, or disaster. They’re so versatile – meaning they can do many good things and many bad things. They can also be many shapes and sizes. They can be fluffy, wispy, thin, tall, very large, very small, stark white, grey, dark blue, black, even green (the green ones are rather scary). And yes, they can also bring many fun things, depending on where your imagination is at the time.
That’s not to say I keep my head in the clouds – although on most days, I would love to. Wouldn’t you? For today though, I’ll stick with the funny shapes I’ve come to notice here and there. Most people would say an over-fifty-something woman has issues. Frankly, I do not. I find my weirdness, my eclectic sense, rather lovely, whimsical, and often eccentric. And I’m okay with that.
What do you see in the clouds?
