It’s Time to Grow Up
Have you ever had someone tell you, “Grow up!”?? I’m sure it was probably said with condescension and more than a little sarcasm and insult. It doesn’t feel well when we hear scornful words. It’s hurtful and belittling.
But what about when God says it? That, my friends, is entirely different.
There does come a time for us to grow up, literally and spiritually. We continue serving God, living our daily lives, yet still battle the same issues day after day. Doing so, we are just spinning our wheels.
What I mean by that is we wake up every morning and within minutes we are in battle; anxiety, depression, stress, aches, pains, illnesses, etc. Maybe you’re thinking, “Well, now, Shelley those are things I can’t help. I’ve prayed and asked God for healing, but He hasn’t healed me.”
Has God really ignored you? Have you really resigned yourself to suffering and being miserable?
Again, sounding harsh, but the truth of the matter is this: *God’s miracle-working power is falling around us like rain… yet no matter where we go, we just can’t seem to get wet! We have become “baffled believers” – maybe going from one place to another, going to the altar and getting prayed for, hoping God will heal us from one sickness, habit, or sin. However, when we get home and find we’re hurting again, we resign ourselves to, “Well, I guess I just didn’t get healed today either.”
Pay close attention, my friends. If this sounds like you, let me lay a little truth on you. Don’t get upset about it. This is actually good news! So be happy! God is letting you know that you are mature enough in Him that you don’t need spiritual baby food anymore. You don’t need anyone to lay hands on you, pray over you, or walk you through healing and deliverance. Don’t get me wrong, all those things are good. You don’t have to go from one place, or service to another trying to find your miracle. This means you have grown to the point where God expects you to pick up your Bible and get what you need by faith!
Trust me when I say, you’re not alone. I’ve been there, too. Many other believers have reached the same stage of spiritual growth, but have no idea they can walk in freedom simply by digging into God’s Word and discovering their healing, freedom, deliverance, and more… if they will just put forth their faith.
If you’re going to walk in freedom – from sickness, sin, disease, poverty, and all the rest of the devil’s trash – you are going to have to get it from the Word.
Jesus is saying to us all, “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free,” John 8:32. Jesus is “the way, the truth, and the life,” John 14:6. When we open His Word, begin searching for our answers, we are promised we will find them… and more.
There is nothing that God can’t heal. There is nowhere we can go that God can’t find us. There is no sound we utter that God doesn’t hear us. The problem is within us, in our unbelief. “Oh, but Shelley, I do believe!” Then why are you still stuck in despair?
God loves us way too much to allow us to stay in the suffering mess we’re in. We are so precious to Him! The problem is that we let the devil whisper lies to us and let him get between us and God, blocking the “still, small whisper” of the Holy Spirit reminding us to look in the Word and we will find everything we need!
The Name of Jesus is above all names: “Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names…” Philippians 2:9, NLT (emphasis added). So when we say (speak out loud) and say things like we have this sickness, or that anxiety, or that depression, we are putting that, those names, above Jesus and friends, this is sin. Ouch! And maybe you’re thinking right now, ‘I’ve had people pray for me, I’ve prayed for myself, and nothing happens. So I have to deal with this.’
We have it all backwards. Instead, it’s time for us to grow up. It’s time for us to square our shoulders, hold our heads up, raise our voice, and declare (sometimes every day, several times a day): “By the stripes of Jesus I am healed! I shall not die but live, and declare the works of the LORD! I declare and decree right now, in the NAME OF JESUS that this issue leave my body, my mind, my family, my home, and not return! Anything that is not of God has to leave now, in Jesus’ Name! And I ask the Holy Spirit now to bring in freedom and restoration. Thank you, LORD! Amen and AMEN!”
Now friends, maybe you’re reading this today and there is something deeper that plagues you. Maybe you may have deeper issues that need extra help, and you need someone to come alongside you to work through those deeper things; abuse (physical, mental, emotional, drugs, alcohol, sexual, etc.), neglect, loss, grief, etc. If that’s you, don’t fret.
